The Manchester/Liverpool Rivalry

Both Manchester United and Liverpool are noted – and claim themselves – to be the best teams in British football. They are indeed the most accomplished teams in the British football history so far. Their rivalry is simply inevitable, competing to claim the title of being THE best football team in England.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool gathered 53 major honors and championship titles so far. Manchester United and Liverpool both collected 18 Premier League (First Division) victories so far, although Manchester United won 11 FA Cup while Liverpool won only 7. Liverpool has 7 League Cup victories in their records – Manchester only has 4. The list goes on and on, marking the true competitions between the two major teams.

What’s interesting to see about Manchester/Liverpool rivalry is the fact that everyone is enjoying it. Meetings between the two teams are always scheduled during the day to discourage avid fans from drinking before the game; there were several cases of hooliganism whenever the two teams collide in a football match. The schedule is set that way also to ignite better media exposures to the match.

There were several interesting moments along the history of these two teams. The past 5 matches between the two teams are all very interesting to see. Their Premier League match in Old Trafford on March 28th, 2008 ended with Manchester United scoring three goals without return. It was a big blow for Liverpool, but the team retaliated with a 2-1 match result for Liverpool when the match was played in Anfield. The rivalry between these two major teams will only get more exciting from here.
