About the Wigan Warriors
The Wigan Warriors Rugby League Football Club, or Wigan Warriors in short, is a professional rugby league club in Wigan. The team is now competing in the Super League and has won several honors and titles since it was established in 1872. It was the members of Wigan Cricket Club that first founded the Wigan Warriors.
Wigan Warriors as a team has its own ups and downs over different periods. Still, they are noted as a serious competitor in many leagues and championships they compete in. They have won no less than 18 championships, 17 Challenge Cups, and 3 World Club Champions titles. It is obvious that Wigan Warriors is still a team to be feared, finishing 6th in last year’s Super League season.
Michael Maguire is the one leading the team as coach since October 2009. Maguire and the way he handles the team is what Wigan Warriors need to regain its glory. It would be interesting to see what the team can do under Maguire’s leadership.
Wigan Warriors won many awards along the team’s history. The most interesting one is of course the BBC Sports Team of the Year award in 1994, given to Wigan Warriors for showing spectacular performances and utter sportsmanship.
Carrying the rooted Wigan traditions, powered by thousands of fanatics supporting the team at all time, it is very much possible to see Wigan Warriors rises back to its glory this season. They won the championship 7 times in a row from 1989 to 1995, and it is just a matter of time before they do it again.
