Players in Profile: Wayne Rooney

Born on October 24th, 1985, Wayne Mark Rooney is now known to be one of the top British football players. His 1.78 m tall posture, his amazing speed and agility, superb stamina that can last through the entire match and several other positive traits – including his amazing shots and power – are among the things that place him as the best striker in Manchester United today.

Rooney’s career started right after he showed spectacular performances when he was in the Liverpool Schoolboys. He was then signed by Everton to join the team’s youth squad, scoring a memorable goal in a Youth FA Cup match right away – he revealed his shirt saying “Once a Blue, always a Blue” worn under his jersey.

His talents and amazing ability to score even when the odds are against him caught the eyes of several other top teams. Newcastle United and Manchester United were among the two teams competing for Rooney’s agreement for a transfer back then. Everton also demanded the transfer to worth no less than £50 million; Manchester United eventually won the bidding war and snagged Rooney for a transfer fee of £25.6 million.

Rooney joined Manchester United in 2004, and his career has been superb ever since. His international career is not to be taken lightly as well, performing superbly in several England international football matches. In Euro 2004, he booked a record of being the youngest scorer in competition history after scoring two goals against Switzerland. His career total is now 148 goals – Premier League goals only – and we will surely see that number goes up real quick in the future.
